School to Apprenticeship ( STA ) Program – “Jumpstart to Journeyworker”
“Earn While You Learn”
The IECC School to Apprentice program allows high school seniors to complete year 1 of their electrical apprenticeship or Telecommunications Technician apprenticeship while still in high school.
Students are registered with the MD Department of Labor Apprenticeship Maryland Program (AMP). STAs (School to Apprentices) work four mornings per week from early morning until lunch break. The standard STA schedule** is to attend IECC related electrical instruction one day per week and return to high school five afternoons per week for graduation requirements. STAs complete a minimum of 450 hours of paid on the job training and 144 hours of electrical classroom instruction. Upon successful completion, apprentices graduate high school, transition to full time work with their employer and complete Year 2, 3, and 4 of their related instruction. (Or Years 2 and 3 for Telecommunications Technicians.)
Like IECC adult apprentices, electrical STAs are on a path to a Journeyworker License. This program gives them a jumpstart by beginning during hire school.
School to Apprentice candidates may work for an IECC contractor member or non-member.
** STA schedule may vary by region.
