Succession is a good thing – unless your last name is Roy- then not so much…
Succession should be in our minds well before it actually needs to take place, working with the right person, assessing the alignments and differences. Trusting that the person you are handing the reins to respects what you have built, will take care of clients, and continue to grow the company.
I am happily handing the reins of IEC Chesapeake Business Development over to the person I hired several years ago SPECIFICALLY to succeed me. He fits the bill perfectly.
Craig Mascaro, who has been working alongside me, is being promoted to Vice President of IECC Business Development and will take my place running the department the first of September.
I have known Craig for nearly all of the 30+ years I have been in the industry. Though he started his life as an electrician, Craig moved on to electrical specification, where I met him as my Lightolier representative in my lighting specification days.
Craig eventually ended up being a rep agency owner and when he decided to migrate out of agency life I snapped him up to join me at IEC Chesapeake. I knew Craig would bring sales acumen and deep understanding of our industry into the chapter and we knew from our previous lives in the field that- though very different from each other- we could work well together…
…and we have.
Craig has done an excellent job of growing IECC and meeting the needs of both Contractor and Associate Partner members. Craig is extremely reliable, knowledgeable, and just plain fun to work with!
Next year, 2025, will be my last not only at IECC but in the industry. I will retire in December. I am transitioning to VP of Communication & Sales for 2025 and will continue to build our social media and outreach presence, training the next IECC Content person.
Succession was important to me. I am handing the reins over to the best person I know for the job. You could not have a better representative in your corner than Craig Mascaro.
